Today while working away as usual bouncing between websites and averaging one Google search per minute, my work came to a halt when Google kept displaying this message instead of returning search results:
Google we’re sorry… but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can’t process your request right now.

I just began getting these, too. Just got an iPod Touch, and set it up to collect my Google Apps via Exchange. Wondering if the mail “push” option is excessively pinging…?
Annoying isn’t it?? This problem appeared after I by mistakenly clicked on a link a bot on my friend’s messenger sent me.
If the problem is still persisting then try deleting cookies, run an anti-malware such as Ad-Aware and if those two don’t work then contact Google.
Unless, it disappeared after 24 hours. I’m hoping mine will, but I didn’t overuse Google and this problem did stem from a malware.
